In March 2019 a cross-jurisdictional meeting on regional climate modelling was held between the New South Wales Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (formerly NSW Office of Environment and Heritage), the Tasmanian Climate Change Office, Western Australian Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, Queensland’s Department of Environment and Science, South Australian Department for Environment and Water, Victorian Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, ACT’s Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate and the Department of Environment and Energy to encourage and enhance consistency in climate science. Represented states and territories subsequently agreed to establish a ‘Cross-Jurisdictional Community of Practice for Climate Science’ (CoP).  The aim of the CoP is to coordinate and enhance climate science for policy, decision-makers and stakeholder, and to provide a platform for effective intra-government cooperation and knowledge sharing. The CoP intends to support the development of the best applications of climate science to produce enhanced regional climate projections at a scale that is fit-for-purpose. We will share insights into the benefits and opportunities of working across states and territories in Australia and how the CoP supports the establishment of a consistent national approach to regional climate modelling and decision-making.
