One objective of Australian energy policy is to increase reliability of the electricity system as increasing volumes of variable renewable energy are deployed. We use synoptic typing as a tool to explore the relationship between weather and properties of the energy system such as wind production, energy demand, atmospheric stability, system correlation and network stability. This talk will focus on how synoptic patterns can shed light on wind ramping events.
