Event attribution and how to explain it (#268)

Almost everyone will have had someone ask them, "Was this extreme event caused by climate change?" Event attribution is the study of just that question, though more scientifically it answers whether an event has become more or less likely with climate change. As the field has matured, we are moving towards making it operational, as well as investigating how to communicate our methods and results, both inside and outside the scientific community. I will discuss how we might integrate attribution into seasonal forecasting, and our workshops where we have introduced the subject to Brazilian and Chinese early career scientists. I will demonstrate a web front-end for attribution analysis which may be useful to communicate it to the general public.
